Al-Owais Keeps Saudi Arabia Level as Uruguay Fight Back Late
Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais was the star of a 1-1 Group H draw, keeping Uruguay at bay until Maxi Araujo struck late.
Uruguay were widely expected to take all three points, but Saudi Arabia produced a stubborn and spirited performance in what Sky Sports called a remarkable Group H contest. Mohammed Al-Owais was the standout figure, making a string of saves to frustrate Uruguay throughout.
Abdulelah Al-Amri gave Saudi Arabia a shock lead with a well taken finish. Despite sustained pressure, Al-Owais repeatedly denied Uruguay and looked set to claim a famous victory.
However, Maxi Araujo finally found a way through late on to earn Uruguay a share of the spoils and ensure the group remains wide open heading into the next round of fixtures.
