Broos Admits Bafana Bana Lacked Pace and Power at the World Cup
South Africa coach Hugo Broos delivered a frank verdict on his side's World Cup exit, pointing to a lack of physical firepower as the deciding factor.
South Africa's World Cup journey is over, and coach Hugo Broos is not looking for excuses. According to Reuters, the Belgian manager offered a brutally honest post-tournament assessment, saying his team simply did not have the pace and power to compete at this level.
Bafana Bafana were eliminated after their Round of 32 defeat to Canada, undone in the dying moments by Stephen Eustaquio's stoppage-time strike. Broos did not spare his side in his reflections, acknowledging that the gap in physical attributes proved too much to overcome.
It is a sobering end for a South African side who will have cherished the rare opportunity of a World Cup stage. But the coach's willingness to face the shortcomings head-on may at least give the programme a clearer direction for the future.
