Colombia Top Group K as Vlasic Fires Croatia Through
Colombia finished first in Group K after a 0-0 draw with Portugal, while Croatia edged Ghana 2-1 to join England as Group L runners-up, setting up two intriguing last-32 ties.
Colombia secured top spot in Group K with a goalless draw against Portugal in Miami, according to Sky Sports. The South Americans needed just a point to go through in first place and duly delivered a disciplined performance. A late goal from Davinson Sanchez was ruled out for offside, keeping the scoreline level and confirming Colombia's progress.
Portugal, who needed to win to finish first, will advance as runners-up and face Croatia in Toronto on Friday July 3. Roberto Martinez's side, meanwhile, will take on Ghana in Kansas City on Saturday July 4, facing former Colombia boss Carlos Queiroz, whose spell in charge between 2019 and 2020 is described by Sky Sports as disastrous.
Elsewhere, Croatia claimed a dramatic 2-1 win over Ghana in Philadelphia, as reported by Sky Sports. Petar Sucic opened the scoring with a long-range effort before Derrick Luckassen equalised for Ghana. Nikola Vlasic then struck the winner to send Zlatko Dalic's side through as Group L runners-up behind England.
The results set up a fascinating round of 32 schedule with Colombia, Portugal and Croatia all confirmed in the knockout stage.
