Cunha Delivers as Brazil Crush Haiti 3-0 in Philadelphia
Matheus Cunha scored twice on his World Cup debut as Brazil moved to the top of Group C with a comfortable win.
Brazil put their opening draw with Morocco behind them in convincing fashion on Friday, beating Haiti 3-0 in Philadelphia to climb to the top of Group C on goal difference, according to Reuters.
Matheus Cunha, handed a starting place by Carlo Ancelotti after Igor Thiago was dropped, repaid his manager's faith with two goals. Vinicius Junior was the architect of the move for both, and also found the net himself in the first half. Sky Sports report that Cunha's opener, after 23 minutes, came via a rebound from a saved Vinicius Junior effort.
The win came at a cost, however. Winger Raphinha was forced off in the 40th minute with an apparent leg injury, casting a shadow over what was otherwise a dominant display from the five-time champions.
The result also ended Haiti's tournament, making them the first side eliminated from the 2026 World Cup.
