Klopp Agrees to Take Over as Germany Head Coach

One of football's most celebrated managers is returning to the dugout, and he is doing so in the most high-profile role possible. According to The Guardian, Jurgen Klopp has agreed in principle to take over as Germany head coach after the German Football Association confirmed that Julian Nagelsmann would be leaving the post with immediate effect.

Nagelsmann had guided Germany through the group stage, where they topped their section before losing their final group match to Ecuador. Their tournament ended in the last 32, eliminated by Paraguay on penalties. The DFB said Nagelsmann's contract, which had been due to run through to the 2028 Euros, would end immediately, and confirmed that Klopp had already signalled his willingness to step in.

Klopp himself acknowledged in characteristically candid fashion that news of his interest had come out prematurely, calling himself an idiot for letting it slip on television before anything was formalised. At 59, one of the great motivators in the game is set to take on the challenge of rebuilding the national team.
