La Liga Boss Tells Infantino: Quit Now
Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, has launched a blistering attack on FIFA and its president, demanding Gianni Infantino step down after what he called a pattern of irresponsible decisions.
La Liga's president Javier Tebas has unleashed a sharp broadside at world football's governing body, according to The Guardian. Tebas accused FIFA of destroying the football industry and called directly for Gianni Infantino to resign from the top job.
Tebas's comments came as the dust settled on the 2026 World Cup and reports emerged that FIFA could expand the 2030 tournament from 48 to 64 teams. He also took aim at the tournament's hydration breaks, claiming they were in reality advertising breaks dressed up in a health-conscious disguise.
Infantino, who has led FIFA for a decade and is expected to be voted in for a fourth term at the March 2027 congress, has faced criticism throughout this cycle. Tebas suggested the controversy surrounding Folarin Balogun's eligibility switch could have proven more damaging to Infantino had the USA progressed further in the tournament.
