France are through to the World Cup semi-finals after a 2-0 quarter-final victory over Morocco in Boston, with Kylian Mbappé at the heart of everything, according to Sky Sports.

Mbappé won a first-half penalty but saw his tame effort saved by goalkeeper Yassine Bounou after a lengthy delay before the kick. The France captain refused to let that define his evening, going on to score one goal and set up another for Ousmane Dembélé after the break.

Morocco, who became the first African side to reach two World Cup quarter-finals, were hampered by the absence of the injured Ismael Saibari and offered little going forward. Their coach acknowledged the gap between the two sides but pointed to a young squad and a strong federation as reasons for optimism ahead of the next tournament.

France, with Mbappé now carrying eight goals for the tournament, will face either Spain or Belgium in the semi-finals. Mbappé was substituted late on with some ankle discomfort but is not expected to miss that game.
