Kylian Mbappe finished as the tournament's top scorer, edging out Lionel Messi in a Golden Boot race that kept fans gripped until the very end.
Kylian Mbappe claimed the Golden Boot at the 2026 World Cup, finishing ahead of Lionel Messi in the race for the tournament's top scorer award, according to Sky Sports. The two superstars had been level on eight goals at one stage, with a host of other contenders chasing hard behind them.
Erling Haaland scored seven goals before Norway were knocked out, while Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham both reached six. Bellingham had entered the race emphatically by scoring twice against Norway to send England into the semi-finals.
Messi had bounced back from a missed penalty earlier in the tournament to score three goals in the final 13 minutes of one match alone, but was ultimately unable to match Mbappe's final tally by the end of the competition.
