Messi Scores First World Cup Hat-Trick to Match Klose

Lionel Messi wrote himself into the record books with a stunning treble as Argentina crushed Algeria 3-0 in Kansas City.

Lionel Messi has scored his first ever World Cup hat-trick, according to Sky Sports, drawing level with Germany legend Miroslav Klose at the top of the tournament's all-time scoring charts.

Argentina were dominant throughout the contest in Kansas, with the defending champions making a commanding start to their title defence. The 3-0 win over Algeria left no doubts about who was in charge.

With at least two more group games still to come, Messi has every opportunity to surpass Klose's record and stand alone as the greatest scorer in World Cup history.
