Panama and Croatia Fight for World Cup Survival in Toronto
Two teams already on the back foot go head to head in Toronto with their World Cup hopes hanging by a thread.
Panama and Croatia meet in Toronto on Sunday in a match that could effectively end one nation's World Cup dream, according to Reuters.
Panama came agonisingly close to a point in their opener but were left to rue missed chances as Ghana's Caleb Yirenkyi struck in extra time to seal a 1-0 defeat. Manager Thomas Christiansen acknowledged the pain of the result but insisted his side deserved more from a game in which they registered 11 attempts on goal.
For Panama to progress, Reuters notes their attackers will need to be sharper in front of goal than they were against Ghana. Croatia, meanwhile, arrive in Toronto equally desperate, making this one of the most consequential group-stage clashes of the tournament so far.
With both sides needing a result, a wide-open and intense contest awaits at BMO Field.
