Saka Fitness Cloud Hangs Over England vs Croatia Preview
Thomas Tuchel faces a genuine dilemma over Bukayo Saka's fitness as England's World Cup begins in Dallas against Croatia.
England's opening World Cup fixture against Croatia in Dallas is already generating fierce debate, and much of it centres on one player: Bukayo Saka. According to Sky Sports, Tuchel himself has admitted the Arsenal winger is unlikely to start and finish a full match, having struggled through the end of a difficult season and missed several games before only lasting part of the Champions League final.
Sky Sports writers are divided on the right call. Some argue Saka's quality is irreplaceable and that Tuchel should trust him from the start regardless of his condition. Others insist England cannot carry passengers in a must-win opener, pointing to Noni Madueke's energy on the right as a viable alternative.
The debate also extends to England's back line, with questions over the best combination among Konsa, Stones and Guehi. With Livramento now also ruled out, Tuchel's defensive options are narrowing fast. The Three Lions kick off against Croatia at 20:00 UTC on Wednesday.
