Saka Likely to Miss England's Ghana Clash as Tuchel Manages Achilles Concern
Thomas Tuchel has indicated Bukayo Saka is unlikely to start against Ghana on Tuesday as England carefully manage the Arsenal winger's ongoing Achilles issue.
England manager Thomas Tuchel has poured cold water on hopes of seeing Bukayo Saka from the start against Ghana, with Sky Sports reporting the 24-year-old is being carefully managed due to an Achilles injury that troubled him throughout the final months of Arsenal's Premier League-winning season.
Saka himself has said the problem is better than it was in March, but he only came on as a substitute in the 72nd minute of England's 4-2 opening win over Croatia. Tuchel suggested the Ghana match, England's second Group L fixture, will come too soon for Saka to start.
Tuchel also spoke warmly about the competition for wide positions in his squad, noting that all four of his wing options have been performing at the highest level in training, making selection decisions genuinely difficult. England fans will be hoping the cautious approach with Saka pays dividends when the tournament reaches its later stages.
