South Africa's Mokoena Rescues Late Draw Against Czechia
A dramatic late equaliser from Teboho Mokoena kept South Africa's World Cup hopes alive after they fell behind early against Czechia.
Teboho Mokoena came to South Africa's rescue with a late equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw against Czechia, according to The Guardian's match report. South Africa had found themselves on the back foot from the opening stages, conceding within five minutes as Czechia dominated.
The final ten minutes brought a flurry of chances at both ends. Evidence Makgopa got in late on only to be denied by the goalkeeper, and Aubrey Modiba saw a last-gasp effort blocked, before the full-time whistle brought relief for coach Hugo Broos and his side.
The point keeps South Africa in contention in Group A, though the manner of the performance will give Broos plenty to think about ahead of their remaining fixtures.
