Spain's Destiny: De la Fuente and Tuchel React to the Final
Spain's coach called it written in the stars, while England's Harry Kane backed Thomas Tuchel to grow from the experience of a semi-final exit.
Spain's head coach Luis de la Fuente declared it was his side's destiny to be crowned world champions, according to The Guardian's Football Daily. "It was written, and we deserve it. We had a date with destiny and we wanted to make it count," he said after the final victory over Argentina.
England captain Harry Kane also offered a measured response to the defeat in the semi-finals, backing manager Thomas Tuchel to absorb lessons from the tournament. Kane suggested Tuchel would learn from the players, the situations, the pressure and the travel.
Meanwhile, Belgium coach Rudi Garcia departed his role in the wake of his side's exit, rounding off a tournament packed with managerial drama from the opening group stage all the way to the final whistle in New Jersey.
