Switzerland Lose Top Scorer Manzambi Before Argentina Clash
Switzerland head into their World Cup quarter-final against Argentina without leading scorer Johan Manzambi, who has been ruled out through injury.
Switzerland's preparations for Saturday's quarter-final against Argentina in Los Angeles have been dealt a significant blow, with coach Murat Yakin confirming that Johan Manzambi will miss the match, according to Reuters.
Manzambi, who has contributed three goals and two assists during the tournament, first picked up a knee injury before Switzerland's last-16 shootout win over Colombia, and Yakin confirmed on Friday that the midfielder had not recovered in time to face the reigning world champions.
The timing could hardly be worse for Switzerland. They face an Argentina side featuring Lionel Messi, and losing their most dangerous attacking threat asks serious questions of Yakin's depth and tactical flexibility. Argentina will take heart from the news as they target a place in the last four.
