Trump to Hand Over the Trophy at the World Cup Final
The White House has confirmed that Donald Trump will attend Sunday's World Cup final in New Jersey and present the trophy.
The United States president will be in the stands when Spain face Argentina in Sunday's World Cup final at MetLife Stadium, according to The Guardian. FIFA chief Gianni Infantino has confirmed Trump will hand over the trophy to the winning captain.
The White House press secretary told reporters she did not know which team Trump was rooting for, adding that he would have a fun answer ready for the press. Trump will also attend a FIFA reception at Trump Tower in New York City on Friday, where soccer's governing body now operates an office after moving in last year.
The appearance adds another layer of spectacle to what is already a historic occasion, with Spain and Argentina set to contest one of the most anticipated finals in World Cup history.
