Tuchel Picks Chalobah Over Trent and Pundit Carragher Says He Saw It Coming
England boss Thomas Tuchel explained his decision to call up Trevoh Chalobah after Tino Livramento's calf injury, and Jamie Carragher said the omission of Trent Alexander-Arnold was no surprise.
England manager Thomas Tuchel faced questions about one of the tournament's most talked-about selection calls after bringing in Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah to replace the injured Tino Livramento, according to Sky Sports. Livramento suffered a calf injury in training ahead of England's opening Group L game against Croatia, ending his tournament before it began.
What caught the attention of pundits was not only the call-up but who was not called up. Sky Sports reports that former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said he was not at all surprised that Tuchel opted for Chalobah rather than turning to Trent Alexander-Arnold, citing what he described as Tuchel's well-known stance on the Liverpool right-back.
Tuchel and Chalobah go back to the manager's time in charge at Chelsea, and Sky Sports notes that the England boss is known to admire the defender. With England's World Cup campaign against Croatia now looming, the debate over the squad's make-up has given the build-up an extra edge.
