The Guardian reports that FIFA has sold 6.5 million tickets for this World Cup, nearly double its previous record, and is on course to exceed its revenue target of eleven billion dollars. Those numbers make the US an obvious candidate to host more football.
Andrew Giuliani, who chairs Donald Trump's World Cup taskforce, was quoted by The Guardian as saying that soccer is no longer a future American story but is happening right now, pointing to the enormous demand to watch the tournament on US soil. FIFA, which benefits from its ties with the current US administration, would welcome another tournament in the country.
